Cooking methods in the culinary arts involve dry heat methods like roasting and sauteing, and moist heat methods such as steaming and braising, notes Radha Singh Hazlet.

Season Boldly:

While speaking of “seasoning”, it invariably refers to salt.It’s considered the main seasoning agent in the culinary arts and something many newbie cooks are unaware of.

Salt enhances taste. Be sure to add salt properly. Don’t add ordinary table salt but Kosher salt. Before grilling meats and roasting poultry, add the Kosher salt to the food item and see what a difference it makes.

There is more to it. For example, while cooking pasta, make sure to salt the pasta water before heating it. Sprinkle a handful of Kosher salt for each six quarts of water depending on the size of your hands. Do the same with the water to be used to boil potatoes for mashed potatoes. Keep adding salt until the water tastes almost like seawater.

Use Flavorful Cooking Liquids:

Water is tasteless.So water used  for steaming vegetables, poaching, braising and preparing soups does not add any flavor to the food. Stock, broth or wine instead of water for instance can be the ideal cooking liquids. Consider vegetable stock instead of plain water while making rice.

Make It Tangy:

To add a little jolt of acid now and then is not a bad idea. Lemon juice, vinegar and wine are some of the awesome ingredients to add acid to the dish, which enhances the flavors and helps balance and complement sweet flavors.

At times, it seems the dish is missing something even though you have seasoned it with salt. Squeezing of a lemon can do what you are looking for. Alternately, for those who have to follow reduced sodium diets, lemon juice can be used to make up for the lost flavor.

Butter it Up:

Aside from salt, butter is arguably the single most common ingredient in all the culinary art. Nothing can be a match for the sublime, creamy flavor and the sumptuous taste of pure butter, cites Radha Singh Hazlet. Remember, an improved divine taste does not necessarily mean compromising your health.

Use Contrasting Textures:

What else can be more divine than biting into a piece of perfectly roasted chicken. The delectably crisp outer skin makes a wonderful contrast with the soft and tender meat that makes eating roasted chicken so much of fun.

Some Knife Skills:

Most of the culinary art focus on enhancing knife skills. Practice honing the skill using both hands.Use your non-knife hand, also called “guiding hand”to hold the food to prevent it from sliding around on the cutting board. Be sure to keep your finger tops tucked safely away while still being able to firmly hold the food.
